Birth

Let me take you to a unique universe where reality and time disappear. Where rush and reason don’t exist. Only an emotional dialogue between our intimate core and the mirror of those emotions, this is where Lidia Masllorens work lives.

I was asked to go to her studio and try to portray the feeling of her work and her. It was a very special moment but also frightening because since Christmas I just could not find or feel any creativity nor inspiration in my work and I was stuck into organising my back catalogue, it’s useful but not very satisfying. I felt like I didn’t have anything else to give, Winter can be dull when the light is flat and bi-dimensional. So I was terrified.

Only needed to move there and hope for the best, say yes and go for it, Doing a short trip to my home country was enough really. The sun just burns into your eyes and the blues become so vibrant, the sand almost red brick and the brain stops to think and the heart starts to breath.

Lidia’s studio is her universe, it’s unique and it’s a mess, mess everywhere, and yet every brush, every cable, every wall it’s a click from my camera, her expressions of discomfort when she doubts, her tiredness, her laugh, her generosity all become clear in her final work, but they are also her and you at the same time, a mirror. Dirt becomes beauty or more like she tries to debeautify our world.

Art first sight her work seems like a pretty cartoon, when you look close her work is full of texture and it’s so much depth you get lost into it.

I just love her as a person and her work which by her words is also us and how we see ourselves. One Art critic thinks she is like Manolo Valdes in a sense that she deconstructs reality and that is accurate.

I hope this pictures can transmit just that.

Giant Party

Last night was incredible, I heard of Giant Party while listening the radio on BBC 6Music and that was that, they were playing in Birmingham that very same Thursday and I read or heard somewhere they were like LCD SoundSystem, I have never been a fan of them but my other half adored them. So I thought I will treat him (because our musical taste is so different), I was the one that ended up dancing and screaming like a lunatic but my surprise was when I saw him going just as wild, my guess is that Giant Party must be doing something right to appeal to opposite fans of Rock and Roll fans, init….

The Sunflower Lounge. Birmingham 25th October 2018

Personaly I loved going to a gig I had no idea what or who were playing, and the surprise I had was unbelievable, it was a blast, a riot of energy and supreme style, I love bands wearing suits and to look smart, they have all that and have personality, their music style I can’t say, sometimes the base had the profound sound of The Cure (my other half disagreed of course…) some guitars were as pristine and clear like Tom Verlaine in Television, other times they had the depth of The National and the charisma of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds as a band, they were like they have been doing this forever and yet In a way this gig felt like the first time I saw Birthday Party (Nick Cave second band) in Barcelona where the audience was maybe 20 people in the industrial part of Barcelona Poblenou. I wish back then I had camera to record that gig but at the time I didn’t even have the cash to get a ticket cos the bus ride cost that so I had to find my way in and walk back home for miles, oh well…

I have a little thing to say about the band now I have heard their tunes on line, personally I think they are overly produced and I wish that if they make a record its produced more according to what they sound in real life because IMHO that’s what's makes this band so special. The tunes overly produce don’t do justice to the band, but hey I am no one to give lessons to anyone it’s just that the magic gets lost in between so much!

If they play near you though, do go and see them, you'll dance and you'll have an incredible experience of a band who gives their ALL.

Rock On!

PS: Apologies for both videos to be so short, it was the first time I tried to film with my camera and I had no clue when was recording or not, I was lucky in a way to manage to film even a little TBH. Next time I will do better :)

Less Noir

I can’t remember last time I had so much fun during a photo shot session. Sometimes I get overwhelmed as things seem to develop at a very fast pace and I don’t want to miss a thing. There is the product, the person, the environment, the feeling etc etc…

This time however the pictures came by themselves, sometimes the clothes wear the person and the person personality disappears, it is good if this is the intention, however I believe that it’s always better to try to make the person shine, with Ana this was easy, so easy, no matter what we threw at her, she just laughed and laughed and enjoyed the session so much, her energy was overwhelming and I do hope this came through my lens ok.

I am not a fan of super sharp images where a model looks perfect and pristine, here there is a Noir feel, movement and action, fun and everything it should be imperfect, human and because of it creative and fun.

I hope you enjoy them and makes you fell part of the Making Of… so much so I left the final images for the Client and kept for me The Making of ;)
